There are certain foods and candies that should not be eaten after braces have been placed on the teeth. Foods that are chewy and sticky or hard WILL break the braces off!! The following are EXAMPLES of some of those foods / candies:
- Gum (with and without sugar)
- Gummy Bears
- Now & Laters
- Starbursts
- Skittles
- Snickers
- Pay Days
- Tic Tacs
- Candy Canes (Hard Candies)
- Popcorn
- Ice
- Pizza Crust
- Licorice
- Sugar Babies
- Heath Bars (Toffee Candy)
- Jaw Breakers
| - Jolly Ranchers
- Airheads
- Warheads
- Tootsie Rolls
- Lollipops
- Milky Ways
- Nerds
- Butterfingers
- Pretzels
- Nuts
- Hard Breads (French / Italian)
- Milk Duds
- Skor
- Sugar Daddies
- Babe Ruths
- Jelly Beans

In addition, if you have braces on your top and/or bottom front teeth, you can no longer bite into certain foods. The following are examples of foods you can no longer bite into:
- Apples
- Plums
- Carrots (hard raw vegetables)
- Bagels
- Ribs
| - Peaches
- Nectarines
- Corn on the Cob
- Chicken on the Bone

You can eat the above foods, but you have to cut them into small pieces, cut the meat off the bone, or remove the pits.
They still taste just as good!
ORTHODONTIC EMERGENCIES
IF A BAND OR BRACKET IS LOOSE AND MOVES OR COMES OFF, CALL THE OFFICE AT ONCE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE IT. SAVE THE BAND OR BRACKET IF YOU CAN AND BRING WITH YOU TO THE APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE IT.
LOOSE WIRES THAT COME OUT FROM THE TUBES MAY BE REPLACED WITH SMALL HOUSEHOLD PLIERS OR CUT OFF WITH NAIL CUTTER OR SMALL WIRE CUTTERS.
